Magento 2 Facebook Messenger Chat

Magento 2 Facebook Messenger Chat: Using this extension, the admin of the Magento 2 webstore will be able to integrate Facebook messenger within his webstore thus allowing the customers to chat with the admin. After configuring the extension, the Facebook Messenger widget will be visible at the webstore frontend.

Installation

Follow the below steps for installing the extension –

Step 1:

Unzip the respective extension zip and and then move “app” folder (inside “src” folder) into magento root directory on the server.

Step 2:

Now, run the below-mentioned commands in the Magento 2 root directory via terminal.

  1. php bin/magento setup:upgrade
  2. php bin/magento setup:di:compile
  3. php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy

Step 3:

lastly, flush the cache and re-index all by navigating through System->Cache management.

Module Configuration

After the successful installation of the extension, the admin will configure the module. To do so, navigate through Stores->Configuration->FB Messenger Chat Module.

Here, the admin will –

  • Enable:
    Select Yes to enable the extension else select No to disable it.
  • FB Page Id:
    The admin needs to enter the page ID of the page that the admin wants to integrate with the Magento 2 store.
  • Logged In Greeting
    Enter the greeting message that will get displayed on login.
  • Logged Out Greeting
    Enter the greeting message that will get displayed on logout.
  • Theme Color
    Enter the theme color for the messenger.

How to Get the Facebook Page ID?

The admin will login to his Facebook account. After that, create a new page or select an existing page by navigating to Pages section.


Here, select the page for which the admin wants the page Id.

Now, after reaching the required page navigate to it’s About Page. And here the admin will be able to find the Page ID.

How to Add Magento 2 Store  to Your Facebook Page?

On the Facebook page, the admin will navigate to the top right-hand settings section.

On the setting page in the Left Navigation Drawer, the admin needs to select the Messenger Platform.

After this, scroll down and navigate to the section “White-listed domains“. Here, enter the website addresses/domain name where the admin is going to use the chat extension and click the save button thereafter. The admin can also add multiple domains as required.

How to Add Customer Chat Plugin?

 Just below the White-Listed Domains option the admin will find the Customer Chat plugin. Tap the Set Up button thereafter.

Tapping the Set Up button brings up another section. Here, tap the Next  button.

Now, select when can people expect a response. So, select an appropriate one and if the admin want to change the appearance color of the messenger icon then change it, and lastly tap the Next button.

After this, we have to add the website or the domain name where we will be using this Facebook messenger. This will allow the customer to see the messenger icon at the store frontend.

Workflow – Store Frontend

The customers will be able to see the messenger icon on the webstore frontend.

Now, if the customer is not already logged into Facebook then he can see the “Log Into Messenger” button as shown below in the snapshot.


Tapping the Log into Messenger button, a pop-up window will appear. Here, the customer has to enter his email address and the password to continue.

After login, the customer will be able to chat with the admin of the store as shown below in the snapshot.

Apart from allowing the chat, the customers can also send in images, emojie, and send likes.

After clicking on the Information Icon(i) on the top right-hand header of this chat window there area few options as shown below in the snapshot.

Here, we have few options to check –

  1. Turn On/Off Messages:
    Turning this option to On will allow the message transmission and selecting it as No stops message transmission.
  2. Mute Conversation:
    If this option is enabled then the customer will be able to mute the conversations.
  3. View On Messenger:
    Clicking this link will redirect the customer to the installed Facebook messenger on his mobile device.
  4. Visit Facebook Page:
    Clicking on this option will redirect to the Facebook page for which configuration has been made.
  5. Add Messenger to Your Website:
    Redirects to the “Add Messenger to your website” page. Here, you can know how the messenger works.
